I am admitting now. I haven’t been doing U-JAM for almost a month. Gotta blame my work for sending me off to the other store at such an early time and a very long commute. Last weekend, my relatives from Seattle arrived for their summer vacation, and of course, to visit us down here in good ol’ Bay Area. When we had our dinner to welcome them, the only one topic that we ever talked about is what we consider the biggest event that’s ever happened to our family: the wedding of my younger sister. Maybe in other cultures, it’s not too much of a big deal, but if you’re Filipino, it is a big deal, most especially if this is the first wedding that’s ever happened to your immediate happy. I couldn’t be happier for my sister and her boyfriend of 5-6 years. For being together for that long, I do think that it is time. After all, both of them are no longer in the 20s. Anyway, I’m not writing this entry to talk about my sister’s wedding. I’m here to write about what I’m doing to prepare myself for that wedding. I did contribute here and there for my sister’s wedding preparations, but now that she’s pretty much, almost, set for the event, which will happen in the early fall season, it’s time for the rest of us family to prepare for that event ourselves. In fact, according to the sister, she still hasn’t figured out what my role is going to be at the wedding. Before, I offered to have my church choir sing for her wedding at the cathedral, but because we don’t belong to the cathedral’s community, that would be an extra charge for them. So instead, the cathedral’s choir will have to sing for them.1 I would be pretty upset if I didn’t even take part of the wedding. After all, our youngest sister gets to be the Maid of Honor and her friends are the bridesmaids. Mom and Dad will obviously be the proud parents, but as for the brother and me, so far we have no roles. When we talked about wedding preparations and the like, Dad made a declaration that we really have to look good and presentable to the masses, and of course, to the groom’s family for that day. In short, we all opted to diet and lose some weight for that day. At first I thought it was silly, but then I realized that I haven’t been really good with my eating habits as of late2 and the fact that I have been eating more right after work, as well as snacking right after dinner, yeah. My fasting glucose readings have been slapping me on the face for being so careless with my eating again, now that I started checking my blood glucose again every morning. Right. It’s time to seriously diet. To make up for my lack of exercise, I have been walking when I can. I walk from work to a fast food restaurant or some eatery rather than driving around with my car just to get from Point A to Point B. My new camera that I just recently purchased somehow gave me the motivation to get up and get active. I had a nice long walk at Quarry Lakes two weekends ago (still haven’t uploaded my new snapshots just yet) but that’s just beginning.
One of my goals as part of my exercise routine is to climb up Mission Peak and then take a selfie along with the famous “totem pole” standing on top. It would be my motivation photo to lose weight. I’m trying to convince friends and family to come with me because I’m not scaling the trails by myself just yet.
Back to reality now. Gotta check what’s for breakfast.
